The Proposal, Again

After much consideration, and a little prototyping, I have settled on the goals for my project. I will create a tool-changing 3D printer/CNC. By the end of the semester, it will have at least two 3D print heads, and one subtractive tool, such as a drill or mill. I will design an object that takes advantage of all 3 heads.
I've also planned out some weekly milestones. Using the week numbering from LearningSuite, in which this week is week 4:
  1. Prototype coupler
  2. Prototype 3D print tools
  3. Tool rack prototype
  4. Automatic tool changing
  5. Dual Material 3D printing
  6. Design an improved coupler
  7. Prototype the improved coupler
  8. Design the subtractive tool
  9. Subtractive tool prototype
  10. Subtactive tool final
  11. Demonstration object preparation
  12. Final presentation
After some consideration, I have made some design considerations to simplify my design, such as having hardwired tools instead of tools that connect and disconnect electrically as well as mechanically. I will also avoid any firmware changes, instead using GCode, even if it is somewhat less polished. Ultimately, this project is meant to be a platform for future improvement.
